Kalpataru Projects International wins customs duty appeal

Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) reported a favorable decision from the Appellate Authority concerning a Customs Authority order that had previously demanded customs duty, interest, and penalties. The original order, issued on June 18, 2024, by the Customs Authority, alleged misclassification of tariff item codes for goods imported between FY 2016-17 and FY 2019-20.

On November 26, 2025, the Appellate Authority allowed KPIL's appeal, deleting the majority of the customs duty demand, approximately INR 83.40 lakhs, and remanding the remaining balance of approximately INR 1 lakh for adjudication. Furthermore, the Appellate Authority also deleted the interest, penalty, and additional penalty that had been imposed on the company.
