Larsen & Toubro secures Indian Army contract for BvS10 Sindhu vehicles

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced it secured an Indian Army contract for the licensed manufacturing of BvS10 Sindhu vehicles, partnering with BAE Systems. Under the agreement, L&T will indigenously produce the BvS10 Sindhu at its Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, receiving technical and design support from BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original manufacturer. The contract also includes an integrated logistics support package for initial deployment, maintenance, and life-cycle sustainment.

The BvS10 Sindhu, an upgraded variant of the BvS10 articulated all-terrain vehicle, is specifically adapted for India's diverse terrain and climate. This includes high altitude, desert, marshland, and amphibious environments. The vehicle successfully completed rigorous trials, demonstrating exceptional performance in both sea-level and high-altitude regions. This partnership reinforces India's "Make in India" initiative and strengthens self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

According to L&T senior vice president and head of precision engineering & systems business, Arun Ramchandani, this contract marks a significant milestone in India's defence landscape, reaffirming L&T's capabilities. BAE Systems Hägglunds managing director, Tommy Gustafsson Rask, highlighted the BvS10's unmatched mobility and performance in extreme climatic conditions as critical attributes for the Indian Army.
