Knowledge Marine wins second green tug contract from Visakhapatnam Port

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Limited (KMEW) announced it has received a Letter of Award from the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) for the "Manning, Operation, Maintenance and Complete Technical Management of contractor Owned 01 No. ASTDS-GTTP Tug."

This ₹384.33 crore order, including taxes, is for a 15-year period and marks KMEW's second green tug contract. The company will deploy high-efficiency energy architecture, leveraging its expertise in battery management systems, aligning with India's Green Tug Transition Program. This initiative supports national decarbonization goals and the growing demand for low-emission harbor and coastal support vessels, a market estimated at approximately ₹12,000 crore.

KMEW emphasized that this repeat order allows for significant synergy benefits in capital expenditure through consolidated, multi-unit procurement and streamlined logistics. Operational efficiencies are expected from replicating proven engineering designs and integration workflows, reducing project management overheads and enhancing overall project economics. KMEW, incorporated in 2015, specializes in marine crafts, dredging, repair, and maintenance services.
