SJVN's Buxar thermal power project unit 1 begins commercial operation

SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, successfully achieved the commercial operation date for unit 1 (660 MW) of the 1320 MW (2x660 MW) Buxar Thermal Power Project today, November 14, 2025. This marks a significant step in strengthening India's power generation capacity.

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, located in Chausa, District Buxar, Bihar, utilizes state-of-the-art supercritical technology for higher efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The project is projected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually.

A substantial 85% of the power generated has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. This project is expected to significantly enhance power availability in Bihar and the Eastern Region, thereby reducing peak-hour shortages and strengthening energy security.
