Alkem Foundation, IIT Bombay partner for advanced research center

Alkem Foundation, the CSR arm of Alkem Laboratories Ltd., has announced a strategic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to establish a first-of-its-kind advanced research centre in India. The "Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development of Applied Immuno-Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicines" will be located on the IIT Bombay campus.

Alkem Foundation will fund the centre, committing 20-25% of its cumulative CSR obligations over seven years. This industry-academia partnership, initiated through the CSR route, aims to foster cutting-edge research and innovation in complex disease areas with significant unmet medical needs. The initiative is set to augment IIT Bombay's multidisciplinary approach to healthcare.

The centre will focus on gene editing, biomaterials, and technology to bolster immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines. It will also serve as a training and incubation hub for clinician-scientists and biotech entrepreneurs, strengthening India’s translational research ecosystem in life sciences. This partnership reflects a commitment to developing healthcare solutions by India for India and the world.
