Mazagon Dock partners with Swan Defence for navy LPDs

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) have signed an exclusive Teaming Agreement (TA) for the design and construction of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) for the Indian Navy. This agreement was finalized during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) recently approved the LPD acquisition, recognizing it as a critical capability for power projection, amphibious operations, and humanitarian assistance. Under the TA, MDL will contribute its expertise in ship design, project management, and system integration, while SDHI will leverage its extensive shipbuilding infrastructure for construction.

This collaboration, framed as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), combines the technical, financial, and operational strengths of both entities. The partnership aims to enhance quality, reduce build times, and achieve cost efficiency in constructing these complex naval platforms.
