GAIL to build bio-gas plant in Bengaluru

GAIL (India) Limited signed a tripartite concession agreement on October 16, 2025, to establish a compressed bio-gas (CBG) plant in Bengaluru. This agreement, made with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), aims to process municipal solid waste into green energy. The plant will be located at the KCDC area, Haralakunte Village, Bengaluru South Taluk.

Under the agreement, GBA will provide 18 acres of land, while BSWML will supply 300 tons per day of segregated municipal solid waste. The facility is projected to produce 12.6 tons of CBG and approximately 22 tons of fermented organic manure (FOM) daily. The concession agreement is valid for 25 years from the project's commissioning date.

This initiative supports sustainable waste management and green energy generation, aligning with the government of India's SATAT initiative and Swachh Bharat Mission. The project promotes a circular economy and sustainable agriculture.
