Greenply Industries wins central excise duty appeal, demand of Rs 2.49 crore set aside

Greenply Industries Limited reported a significant development in its ongoing tax litigation, with the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (Eastern Zonal Bench, Kolkata) setting aside an order that had demanded Rs. 248.90 Lacs in differential Central Excise duty for the FY 2009-10. This demand was related to the disallowance of discounts on goods dispatched from the factory and sold from various depots.

The commissioner of central excise (appeal-I), Kolkata, had initially passed the order under relevant provisions of the Central Excise Act. Greenply Industries had subsequently filed an appeal against this order.

In a decision dated October 15, 2025, the appellate tribunal allowed the company's appeal, providing consequential relief as per law and effectively nullifying the previous demand. This update was reported in compliance with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
