Grasim opens Kharagpur paints plant, expands Birla Opus capacity

Grasim Industries Limited began commercial production at its Kharagpur (West Bengal) paints plant on October 15, 2025. This facility adds substantial capacity, including 180 MLPA for water-based paint, 20 MLPA for distemper, 30 MLPA for solvent-based paint, and 6 MLPA for colorants. The resin manufacturing block for solvent-based paints is not yet commissioned, with resin currently sourced from other Birla Opus plants.

With this commencement, all six of Grasim's green-field plants are now operational. The total installed capacity for decorative paints under the "Birla Opus" brand has now reached 1,332 Million Litres Per Annum (MLPA).

This expansion is strategically aimed at catering to the domestic market, further strengthening Grasim's presence in the Indian paints sector.
