Airtel Business secures multi-year cybersecurity contract for Indian Railways

On October 6, 2025, Airtel Business announced it secured a multi-year contract with the Indian Railway Security Operations Centre (IRSOC) to provide comprehensive security services. The agreement tasks Airtel Business with designing, building, implementing, and operating a greenfield, multi-layered, 24x7x365 cybersecurity protection ecosystem for Indian Railways. This initiative aims to safeguard the railway's IT backbone and ensure uninterrupted digital operations, benefiting over 1 bn Indians through enhanced data security for ticket booking, payments, and train tracking.

The contract focuses on protecting critical data flows from over 13,000 daily trains, 20m commuters, and 1.5 bn tons of freight annually. Airtel Business will establish multi-layer protection for the railway's expansive database, securing end-to-end digital operations for 160,000 employees across 26 locations. The technology stack will incorporate market-leading and Make in India cybersecurity products, delivering a sovereign, fully compliant, and AI-embedded security ecosystem.

Key deliverables include a comprehensive compliance dashboard for centralized visibility across 26+ locations, AI-driven endpoint protection, and real-time monitoring of over 190,000 critical infrastructure assets. The system will leverage AI-driven SIEM, SOAR, and UEBA for next-gen monitoring, aiming for a mean-time-to-detect (MTTD) of under 20 seconds, alongside robust patch management, threat intelligence, and strong network controls.
