Torrent Pharma receives penalty notice for alleged drug overcharging

Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited announced it has received a Demand Notice from the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). The notice, dated September 24, 2025, imposes a penalty of INR 60,28,721 under paragraph 15 of the Drug Price Control Order 2013 (DPCO). The company received this communication on September 29, 2025.

The penalty stems from allegations of overcharging for two specific drugs. The alleged violations occurred over two distinct periods: May 2018 to July 2020 for one drug, and August 2023 for the second.

Despite the substantial penalty, Torrent Pharmaceuticals stated that, based on its internal assessment, there is no material impact on its financial, operational, or other activities as a listed entity.
