Godawari Power & Ispat: Fatal incident halts operations at Siltara plant

Godawari Power & Ispat Limited (GPIL) reported an incident on September 26, 2025, at its Siltara iron ore pellet plant, where a collapse of refractory in the travel grate occurred. The incident, which took place around 5:00 PM during a routine inspection, led to the death of six employees and injuries to six others. One injured employee has been discharged, while the remaining five are stable and expected to recover within a week.

The company is conducting an internal inquiry to investigate the root cause and implement preventive measures. Operations at the iron ore pellet plant are currently closed until the internal inquiry is completed, due diligence is performed, and the refractory lining is reset. Other manufacturing activities, including another pellet plant, DRI, and SMS, remain uninterrupted.

While the quantum of loss from business interruption is not yet ascertainable, the entire plant is covered by insurance. Additionally, a Group Term Life Policy provides INR 10,00,000 compensation per employee in case of death, and a Group Personal Accident Policy covers INR 5,00,000 to INR 10,00,000 for accidents.
