POWERGRID approves two major infrastructure projects for grid enhancement

POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited announced on September 26, 2025, that its committee of directors on investment on projects has approved two key proposals. These initiatives aim to enhance grid operations and strengthen transmission infrastructure across India.

The first approved project involves the implementation of a VOIP communication system for grid-operation for all five regions (NR, NER, SR, WR, ER) as PAN India. This system comes with an estimated cost of ₹209.68 crore and is scheduled to be commissioned within 18 months from the project allocation date, specifically by August 23, 2026.

Additionally, the committee approved the procurement of 20 sets (300 towers) of emergency restoration system (ERS) under the "Make in India" initiative, as part of the "disaster preparedness of transmission infrastructure" project. This endeavor is estimated to cost ₹495.83 crore and is slated for commissioning by April 19, 2027.
