L&T secures second bullet train track-work contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on September 15, 2025, that its Transportation Infrastructure business vertical has secured a "large" order from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL). The contract involves constructing 156 Route Km (RKM) of high-speed ballastless track for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor, specifically Package T1. This project falls within L&T's "large" classification, indicating a value between ₹2,500 Cr and ₹5,000 Cr.

The scope of work includes the design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of track-works on a Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis, connecting Mumbai (Bandra-Kurla complex) and Zaroli village in Gujarat. The project encompasses over 21 km of track-works in underground sections and 135 km on elevated viaduct sections. This marks L&T’s second track-work package in the MAHSR project, following Package T3 awarded in April 2022, bringing their total responsibility to over 50% of the track-works in MAHSR.

L&T confirmed that the Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology will be adopted for the track-works, facilitating speeds up to 320 kmph, enhancing ride quality, and extending service life.
