Bioyug on wheels spotlights BCML innovation at Kochi KPLEX expo

Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) announced that its 'Bioyug on Wheels' initiative rolled into Kochi, Kerala, for the KPLEX Expo 2025 – International Plastics Exhibition & Conference, held from September 11th to 14th, 2025. This mobile awareness campaign, launched in Mumbai in May 2025, aims to promote circular economy principles and mainstream the adoption of polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastics across India. The initiative showcases PLA bioplastics' role in creating a sustainable future for packaging, textiles, and agriculture.

Key highlights from the Kochi edition included significant institutional engagement from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and presidents of various state plastic associations. More than 250 industry professionals visited the mobile unit on the second day, demonstrating growing interest in bio-based solutions. The interactive format, featuring PLA samples and technical showcases, attracted manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and policy advocates.

Shweta Suryawanshi, business development head, BCML PLA Division, emphasized Kerala's evolving eco-conscious market and the strategic timing of the expo, especially with the Kerala High Court's mandated ban on select single-use plastic items taking effect on October 2, 2025. This ban includes items like plastic water and soft drink bottles, plates, cups, straws, and bakery boxes. BCML continues to lead the sector with innovative, eco-friendly solutions, boasting an aggregate crushing capacity of 80,000 TCD and distillery operations of 1050 KLPD.
