Aarti Drugs temporarily halts chlorosulfonation process at Tarapur unit

Aarti Drugs Limited received an order on September 9, 2025, from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to voluntarily close its chlorosulfonation process at the PTSCL section of its T-150 unit in Tarapur, Maharashtra. This directive, issued under Sections 33A of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and 31A of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, follows an HCl gas leakage incident on September 8, 2025. No injuries or casualties were reported.

The company stated that there is no financial or material impact expected from this closure. PTSCL manufacturing is for both captive consumption and direct sales, and Aarti Drugs maintains sufficient inventory. The company also confirmed its ability to procure the product from other suppliers if needed. The manufacturing of other products at the T-150 unit will continue uninterrupted.

Aarti Drugs will conduct a safety audit and seek necessary approvals from the MPCB and the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH). The company will cease the chlorosulfonation process at the PTSCL section upon completion of current in-process batches.
