HCLTech appoints Amitabh Kant as independent director

HCL Technologies Limited (HCLTech) has appointed Amitabh Kant as an additional director to serve as an independent director on its board. The appointment is effective September 8, 2025, for a five-consecutive-year term concluding on September 7, 2030. The nomination & remuneration committee recommended this appointment, which is now subject to shareholder approval.

Kant, aged 69, brings extensive public service experience, including serving as India's G20 Sherpa and ceo of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog). His career highlights include spearheading transformative policies like the Aspirational Districts Program, Startup India, Make in India, and the 'Incredible India' campaign. He is recognized for his contributions to India's economic landscape and is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star (2023).

Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson, HCLTech, stated that Kant's experience in building public sector institutions and his contributions to India's reforms will provide immense insights for the company's growth strategy. C. Vijayakumar, ceo & managing director, HCLTech, emphasized Kant’s thought leadership and long-term thinking as invaluable assets to the company’s strategic plans. HCLTech reported consolidated revenues of $14 bn as of the 12 months ending June 2025.
