Tata Steel litigation over Sukinda Chromite Block demand continues

Tata Steel Limited has provided an update on its ongoing legal case concerning a demand of INR 1,902,72,53,760 from the office of deputy director of mines, Jajpur. This demand relates to an alleged shortfall in mineral dispatch from the company's Sukinda Chromite Block, citing violations of Rule 12-A of the MCR 2016.

The company filed a writ petition before the High Court of Orissa at Cuttack seeking to quash the demand letter. The High Court heard the matter on August 14, 2025, and again on September 2, 2025.

As per the order received on September 5, 2025, the High Court has slated the next hearing for October 9, 2025. The court's order continues to restrain authorities from taking any coercive steps against Tata Steel until the next hearing date.
