GMDC: Environmental Investments Detailed in New Sustainability Report

Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) has submitted its Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report (BRSR) for the financial year 2024-25, which forms part of its annual report. The company reported a total turnover of ₹2,850.84 crore and a net worth of ₹6,373.43 crore. GMDC's core activities include mining and quarrying (94.40% of turnover) and power generation (5.60% of turnover), with lignite being the primary product (90.67%).

The report details significant R&D and capital expenditure (capex) investments in environmental and social impact improvements, with 100% of R&D and 70.33% of capex allocated to these areas in FY25. Notable achievements include 6.4 million units (MU) of electricity from a 5 MW solar plant, reducing 6,208 metric tonnes (MT) of CO2 emissions, and 336 MU from a 201 MW wind power project, reducing 3,32,128 MT of CO2 emissions. The company also planted 98,118 saplings across 84.75 hectares for carbon sequestration.

GMDC reported a total energy consumption of 13,81,131 GJ in FY25, with an energy intensity of 484 GJ per crore INR of turnover. Water withdrawal totaled 24,44,570 kilolitres, and total water consumed was 12,85,868 kilolitres. Waste generated amounted to 45.60 MT, with all of it recovered through other recovery operations. The company confirms adherence to all applicable environmental laws and has robust mechanisms for stakeholder engagement and grievance redressal.
