Adani Power subsidiary wins appeal, clearing ₹26.32bn charge

Adani Power Limited announced on August 30, 2025, that its subsidiary, Mahan Energen Ltd. (MEL), has won an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL). The appeal was against a relinquishment charge of INR 2632.54 crores imposed by the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL). APTEL's judgment dated August 29, 2025, declared CTUIL's claim as infructuous, extinguishing the compensation against MEL.

This ruling effectively removes a considerable financial liability for MEL, formerly Essar Power M.P. Limited, which is a subsidiary of Adani Power. The original charge stemmed from an order by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) dated October 7, 2019.
