Tata Steel wins ₹25,186 crore tax dispute ruling

Tata Steel announced the Bombay High Court set aside a show cause notice and subsequent proceedings related to reassessment of its taxable income for 2019-20. The ruling annulled the notice on technical grounds, citing it was issued by the wrong officer.

The dispute stemmed from a ₹25,185.51 crore loan waiver in favor of Tata Steel BSL Limited, which led to an assessment order increasing the company's taxable income by that amount. Future revival of the petition remains possible if legal precedents change.
