Alkem Laboratories hit with $48,000 tax penalty

Alkem Laboratories received a penalty of INR 40,74,186 from West Bengal tax authorities over technical discrepancies in transportation documents for a detained goods consignment.

The penalty was imposed under the IGST Act, 2017 by the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue following the July incident. The company said the penalty would not materially impact its financial or operational activities.
