Tata Steel Nederland announces major restructuring for sustainable future

Tata Steel Nederland has announced a comprehensive restructuring program aimed at boosting competitiveness and fostering a sustainable future, filing a Request for Advice to the Central Works Council on April 9, 2025, to commence consultation on certain aspects of this transformation programme. The plan includes optimizing production efficiencies, lowering fixed costs, and refining the product mix and margins. As part of the transformation, the company will reorganize its structure, leading to a reduction of approximately 1600 management and support function roles. Tata Steel Nederland also plans to transition to green steel production by replacing one of its blast furnaces with a new Direct Reduced Iron furnace and Electric Arc Furnace by the end of the decade, projecting a reduction of around 5 million tonnes per annum of CO2 emissions. The transformation program is expected to provide TSN the ability to make the necessary investments in its future and to achieve benchmark levels of profitability. The company is in constructive discussions with the Dutch government for requisite funding and policy support.
