GAIL, Coal India form JV for synthetic natural gas project

GAIL (India) announced today the incorporation of a joint venture company, Coal Gas India Limited, with Coal India Limited (CIL) to focus on a coal-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) project at Eastern Coal Field. The authorized share capital of the new entity is ₹110 crore, with an initial paid-up capital of ₹1 lakh, with CIL holding 51% (₹51,000) and GAIL 49% (₹49,000). This is following governmental approval from the Ministry of Coal in February 2024 for the JV, which aims to manufacture SNG, other syn gas derivatives, and develop related infrastructure. The incorporated date for Coal Gas India Limited is March 25, 2025.
