Coal India partners with IIT Hyderabad for clean coal R&D

Coal India Limited (BSE:COALINDIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H), to establish a Centre of Clean Coal Energy and Net Zero (CLEANZ) at Hyderabad. The joint initiative focuses on developing clean coal technologies and diversifying coal utilization in line with India's Net Zero commitments. CIL will grant ₹98 Crores to IITH over five years to establish the center, fostering research capabilities in the coal sector. The collaboration falls under the National Centre for Coal and Energy Research (NaCCER), an independent R&D unit of CMPDI. CLEANZ will emphasize net-zero utilization, focusing on low-grade coal, carbon capture, coal gasification, energy efficiency, and artificial intelligence. The partnership also includes training for CIL officials in technology adoption and critical mineral extraction.
