Orion Minerals appoints Johan van Dyk as project director for Prieska

Orion Minerals Limited (Orion) has appointed Johan van Dyk as its new project director, a strategic move to support ongoing operational readiness activities. Van Dyk brings over 40 years of executive leadership experience in coal and base metals, high-volume production, projects, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) environments. His extensive background includes leading large multi-disciplined teams and building capacity within executive leadership to enhance operational delivery.

Before joining Orion, van Dyk spent 26 years at Palabora Mining Company. His career also includes roles at the South African Iron & Steel Corporation (ISCOR), the South African Oil from Coal Corporation (Sasol), and Rio Tinto's North Parkes Mines in NSW, Australia. His previous positions include general manager operations, general manager projects, and general manager SHEQ. Van Dyk holds an MBA from the University of Cumbria (UK) and South African government competency certification.

Orion’s managing director and CEO, Tony Lennox, highlighted the significance of this appointment, stating it is an important step forward for Orion, especially following the signing of a non-binding term sheet with Glencore. Lennox expressed confidence that an experienced project team is crucial for successful execution and reiterated the company's goal of achieving first concentrate production from the Uppers at the Prieska project by Christmas 2026.
