Merafe Resources suspends Lion smelter operations amid review

Merafe Resources (JSE:MRF) announced the temporary suspension of smelting operations at the PSV's Lion smelter, effective immediately. This decision comes as part of the ongoing business review process initiated to address market challenges in the ferrochrome industry. The company's chrome Pooling and Sharing Venture with Glencore Operations South Africa Proprietary Limited (“PSV”) remains committed to engaging with stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, labour, and suppliers. This suspension follows earlier decisions to halt operations at the Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters in May 2025.
