Renergen's Tetra4 secures landmark legal win against NERSA

Renergen (JSE: REN) announced today that the High Court of South Africa ruled in favor of Tetra4 in its dispute with the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). The court declared that the Gas Act 48 of 2001 does not apply to upstream petroleum activities, including licensing for trading, construction, and operation of liquefaction facilities outside the piped gas industry. The ruling clarifies that gas trading (methane and helium) occurring outside the national pipeline grid does not require a NERSA license. This order clarifies that the activities fall under the regulatory purview of the Production Right granted in accordance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002. Renergen CEO Stefano Marani hailed the judgment as a landmark win that reduces regulatory duplication, lowers barriers to entry, and creates a more enabling environment for upstream gas development in South Africa.
