Merafe Resources suspends Boshoek and Wonderkop smelting operations

Merafe Resources Limited (JSE:MRF) has announced the suspension of ferrochrome smelting operations at its Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters, effective May 1st and May 31st, respectively. The decision follows a business review process initiated in February 2025 in response to ongoing market challenges within the ferrochrome industry, conducted through its chrome Pooling and Sharing Venture with Glencore Operations South Africa Proprietary Limited. The suspension at Wonderkop allows for processing of remaining raw materials during May 2025. Both complexes will continue essential maintenance activities during the suspension period. The company states that the suspensions will remain in effect indefinitely, pending any material changes in ferrochrome market dynamics. Merafe's Lion smelter will continue ferrochrome production for the remainder of 2025.
