China Power reports mixed October sales as hydropower jumps, coal falls

China Power International Development Limited and its subsidiaries reported a combined total electricity sold of 9,235,140 MWh in October 2025, a 5.29% decrease compared to the same month last year. For the first ten months of 2025, total electricity sold reached 105,502,111 MWh, down 2.51% from the corresponding period last year.

Within its wholly-owned or controlled power plants, hydropower sales jumped 55.32% in October 2025 year-on-year, reaching 1,282,345 MWh. However, coal-fired power experienced an 18.33% decrease, and natural gas power fell by 22.14% for the month. For the first ten months of 2025, coal-fired power from wholly-owned plants declined 16.34% to 39,258,012 MWh, while wind power surged 17.13% to 24,768,761 MWh.

Major associates' or joint ventures' power plants also contributed to the varied performance. Wind power in this segment saw a substantial 35.83% decrease in October 2025, and photovoltaic power dropped by 38.17%. In contrast, coal-fired power from these plants increased by 22.84% in October 2025, totaling 3,936,613 MWh. Year-to-date, coal-fired power from major associates' plants rose 10.49% to 38,537,838 MWh, while wind power decreased by 37.75% to 1,281,604 MWh.
