China Shenhua Energy: mixed operational results for September 2025

China Shenhua Energy's commercial coal production for September 2025 saw a slight year-on-year increase of 0.7%, reaching 27.6m tonnes. However, accumulative production for the first nine months declined by 0.4% to 250.9m tonnes. Coal sales decreased by 1.6% to 36.3m tonnes in September, with accumulative sales down 8.4% to 316.5m tonnes.

In transportation, self-owned railway turnover grew by 13.4% year-on-year in September to 27.0bn tonne kilometres, attributed to increased transportation volume from sufficient coal sources. Loading volumes at Huanghua Port and Tianjin Coal Dock also rose by 13.6% and 15.2% respectively, due to increased resource arrivals and a lower base from the previous year. However, shipping volume and shipment turnover experienced notable year-on-year decreases of 15.8% and 31.2% in September, due to structural adjustments in shipping business and route changes.

Power generation saw a decrease, with gross power generation down 16.3% in September to 18.75bn kwh and total power output dispatch falling 16.6% to 17.63bn kwh, mainly due to insufficient electricity demand and increased new energy output. Conversely, polyethylene and polypropylene sales increased significantly year-on-year from January to September, driven by a lower base due to scheduled maintenance last year.
