Brilliance China Automotive sees revenue rise, profit before tax drop in H1 2025

Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Limited reported unaudited consolidated revenue of RMB561.7 million for the first six months ended June 30, 2025, an 8.4% increase from RMB518.0 million in the same period of 2024. This growth was primarily driven by stable increases in orders for electric and hybrid motor vehicle components, partially offset by reduced revenue from motor vehicle financing due to heightened market competition. Despite higher revenue, gross profit decreased by 9.7% to RMB93.5 million, resulting in a lower gross profit margin of 16.6% compared to 20.0% in 2024, attributed to initial set-up costs for new non-BMW automotive component production and insufficient revenue from JSA’s minibuses and multipurpose vehicles to cover fixed costs.

Profit before income tax expense decreased by 35.1% to RMB1,906.3 million, down from RMB2,937.8 million in the first half of 2024. This reduction was primarily due to a 25.1% decrease in the share of results from associates, notably BBA, which saw its local sales volume drop by 16.7% to 260,455 units. Furthermore, interest income fell by 73.5% to RMB78.2 million, and general and administrative expenses surged by 58.5% to RMB279.9 million.

The company's basic earnings per share for the period were RMB0.33723, an increase from RMB0.29201 in the first half of 2024. As of June 30, 2025, the Group held RMB5,857.0 million in cash and cash equivalents and had short-term bank borrowings of RMB130.0 million. A special dividend of HK$1.0 per share was declared on March 3, 2025, totaling RMB4,738,677,000, and an interim dividend of HK$0.8 per share was recommended.
