China Shenhua Energy reports mixed August operational data

China Shenhua Energy reported a slight decrease in commercial coal production for August 2025, down 0.3% year-on-year to 28.6 million tonnes, with year-to-date production also dipping by 0.5% to 223.3 million tonnes. Coal sales in August fell by 3.1% to 37.5 million tonnes, and accumulative sales dropped by 9.2% to 280.2 million tonnes.

In transportation, the company saw positive growth in self-owned railway turnover, up 10.7% to 28.0 billion tonne kilometres in August, and loading volume at Huanghua Port increased by 11.6% to 19.3 million tonnes. However, shipping volume decreased significantly by 16.5% to 9.6 million tonnes for August and 20.3% year-to-date. Gross power generation for August rose by 3.8% to 23.39 billion kWh, although year-to-date generation was down 3.8%.

The coal chemicals segment demonstrated growth, with polyethylene sales for August up 0.9% to 32.3 thousand tonnes, and accumulative sales for the year increasing by 17.9% to 248.4 thousand tonnes. Polypropylene sales, however, saw a 4.4% decline in August to 28.1 thousand tonnes, but year-to-date sales grew by 13.6% to 225.3 thousand tonnes, attributed to a lower base from maintenance last year.
