Jinchuan Group reports mixed H1 2025 production amid power woes

Jinchuan Group International Resources Co. Ltd announced its operational update for the six months ended June 30, 2025. Copper production, including cathode and concentrate, decreased by approximately 2.4% year-on-year to 27,904 tonnes. This decline was primarily attributed to the temporary suspension of the SX-EW System in January 2025 due to power supply instability at the Ruashi Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite this, the group utilized its flotation plant to produce more copper concentrate, maintaining overall production levels.

Cobalt production experienced a significant decline, falling by approximately 89.6% year-on-year to 71 tonnes in H1 2025, linked to the SX-EW System's suspension. Consequently, the group did not sell any cobalt in H1 2025, compared to 991 tonnes sold in the previous year, exacerbated by a cobalt export ban in effect since February 2025.

Copper sales saw a slight decrease of 0.7% year-on-year, totaling 26,050 tonnes in H1 2025. The company addressed the power supply issue by installing additional diesel generators, with the SX-EW System resuming operations in mid-May 2025. Trading in the company's shares remains suspended on the Stock Exchange since March 28, 2025.
