China Power sees mixed July sales; renewables rise but coal, hydro dip

China Power International Development Limited announced its total electricity sold in July 2025 reached 12,543,235 MWh, a 2.45% increase compared to July 2024. However, the combined total electricity sold for the first seven months of 2025 was 75,079,795 MWh, a 1.97% decrease year-on-year.

Within the wholly-owned or controlled power plants, photovoltaic power saw the most significant growth in July, increasing by 25.20% to 2,851,403 MWh. Wind power sales rose 0.12%, and hydropower grew by 2.86%. Conversely, coal-fired power experienced a 6.58% decrease in July. For the first seven months, wind power showed strong growth of 23.03% and photovoltaic power increased by 12.14%, but hydropower and coal-fired power saw declines of 17.81% and 13.47%, respectively.

Major associates' or joint ventures' power plants reported a significant 40.44% increase in total electricity sold for July, reaching 5,151,575 MWh. This was largely driven by a 44.17% surge in coal-fired power sales. However, their wind power sales for July decreased by 46.78%. For the first seven months, these associates saw an overall 6.64% increase, with coal-fired power up 10.02% and photovoltaic power up 25.99%, despite a 41.35% drop in wind power.
